Livestock Handling for First Responders – Instructor Course

October 12, 2020 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

This course certifies instructors to teach our Livestock Handling for First Responders class to police, fire, EMS and other first responder personnel. This class covers a range of topics to help first responders safely and effectively deal with incidents involving a variety of livesetock species. We discuss the behaviours and challenges posed by different species – including horses, cattle, bison, swine, poultry, sheep, goats etc. – especially with regards to capture, containment and removal. The objective is to maximize public and first reponder safety, while ensuring the most humane handling of animals.

The course is open to both existing Equine First Aid Instructors and new instructors who ONLY wish to teach the Livestock Handling for First Responders class.

There are 2 prerequisite courses. LHFR instructor candidates MUST be certified to teach our Disaster Planning & Emergency Preparedness AND our Safe Trailering Practices class prior to taking this course. Both of these instructor courses are being offered the previous weekend (October 3rd and 4th) – see separate event listings.
